The “Pringle Person” unit is an engaging way to have first and second year students review what they have learned over a semester and assess their speaking in an authentic way.  The presenters will start with the California World Language Standards, show how they will be addressed with the “Pringle Person” presentation, and then discuss classroom activities that lead up to the actual Pringle project.  Student materials will be given out in German and Spanish, although they can be easily adapted to any language.

Oral communication skills don’t stop developing when students step outside the classroom. Reflective writing prompts students to think about how they, and others, express themselves orally. Developing awareness enables them to learn and monitor language skills independently. F10            Una Vida revolucionaria: Cultural Unit on Arzobispo Romero (Part 1)

This unit encompasses a study of El Salvador's Civil War in which Archbishop Oscar Romero played a significant role. Students are engaged through film, music, and texts. After participating in this unit, students will be able to define roles of key political figures, speak and write from the perspective of a civil war victim, participate in a mock protest, interpret song lyrics, and more. Participants will receive an orientation to the Educator's Toolbox** which contains an outline of the contents of the Standards, a glossary of key concepts, standards-based curricular maps, a guide to unit design, a benchmark prompt, rubrics, initial planning sheets for Stull evaluations, wall posters and a guide to observing Framework-aligned instruction.
