This content-based communicative unit focuses on the cultural life of Guatemala’s indigenous people. This workshop will briefly present results about a research project, conducted at a public university, which integrated cultural presentations with the development of academic writing skills in beginning Spanish courses. The presenters will carry out three cultural presentations, requesting the participants to write and edit a composition in Spanish based on one of those presentations. As part of the preparation for the writing assignment, the presenters will discuss fundamental aspects of academic writing and, after the compositions have been submitted, they will demonstrate the use of a rubric for assessment.
