Foreign Language Instruction for Today’s Students

Four Strands:
Foundations 1 for Teachers of Foreign Languages
Foundations 2 for Teachers of Foreign Languages
Foundations 1SS for Teachers of Spanish for Spanish Speakers
Foundations 1ELD for Teachers of English Learners
  • Framework-aligned academic content
  • Lesson design and the instructional delivery sequence
  • Practicum: generic input, guided practice, extension, and assessment structures
  • Strategies for working with English learners and diverse, low performing populations
  • Techniques for developing literacy and incorporating technology in the curriculum
  • Reflection on practice, colleague collaboration, leadership development

Dates:   PROGRAM WILL BE OFFERED ON FOUR SATURDAYS: October 18, November 15, December 13, 2008, January 31, 2009, and ONE THURSDAY, December 4,2008, observation day at a local school*.

    Times:   8:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.                                                     
    Cost:    $595 per participant (If your school can't send you, inquire about scholarships.)
    Credit: Three units of credit will be available for an additional fee at the class meeting.
    Deadline for   Enrollment:  October 8, 2008. Space is limited. Please respond promptly.

Foundations 1ELD: Making the ELD Standards Come Alive

A five-day workshop of strategies to teach English as a second language.
Content includes
• Standards-based lesson design
• Exploration of formal and informal assessments and reclassification requirements
• Practice of structures for accelerating the learning of English language learners

The California Foreign Language Project I.E. STARS

  • Submit check or purchase order or complete INTENT TO PAY on registration form.

Acceptance letter will be sent to individual teachers by I.E. STARS.
