In this activity you will be visiting web sites for weather forecasts in German.

 

A. Pre-reading (using prior knowledge)

    1. Wie ist das Wetter heute hier in Vista?

    2. Ist es wolkig? Scheint die Sonne?

    3. Regnet es? Ist es bewölkt?

    4. Gibt es Gewitter (Donner und Bliztzen)?

    5. Gibt es viele Wolken am Himmel oder nicht so viele?

    6. Gibt es schönes Wetter?

    7. Ist es warm?

    8. Ist es kühl?

    9. Ist es heiß?

    10. Ist es kalt?

    Sollen wir das Wetter besprechen?

Schauer = viel Regen
bedeckt = sehr viele Wolken
bewölkt = viele Wolken
heiter = die Sonne scheint, der Himmel ist klar
Vorhersage = wie das Wetter sein wird

D. Application: Finde website http://www.donnerwetter.de

    Jetzt müsst ihr drei verschiedene Städte suchen. Schreibt ihr die Name in "STADTSUCHE" und findet heraus wie das Wetter ist. (You can choose from the list or find your own German city or town)

E. Assignment: As a group you will be giving a weather forecast as a German Student weather news team. Be sure to cover this information:

 

F. Expansion: Make up your own weather report for a city in Austria or Switzerland.

Procedure:

  1. Review Weather vocabulary from previous lesson. Pass out review vocabulary.
  2. Go to the website using overhead monitor connected to computer http://donnerwetter.de/meldungen/region.mv?c+03+Aurich, which shows the current weather conditions in various cities located in East Freesia.
  3. Discuss as a class what type of weather they can see at this site and what the temperature is. Talk about where it is located and where our sister school is located.
  4. Students break up into groups and go to computers. They need to find the following website: http://donnerwetter.de/region/suchort.mv?search=Aurich
  5. Students now need to scan the website and list the type of information they can find (in German) on this particular web page.
  6. Now have students answer the questions relating to Aurich, which they can find on their Internet activity sheet.
  7. Students are then to find three other cities located in three different regions in Germany, by doing a city search. They are then to answer the questions on their activity sheet to answer the questions on the information found at those websites.
  8. Students could then choose one city in which they will present a weather forecast for the class as a weather news team, explaining current weather conditions, and the forecast for the next four days.

For an additional activity, students can find out what the weather conditions are like for gardening and include that in their weather forecast.
